Pei-Yu Lai

Pei-Yu is a lighting designer creating atmospheres to support the interactions between light and space, dedicated to visualizing the invisible: time, sentiments and history.

Pei-Yu’s lighting design work The Seagull was selected in the Imagination Exhibit for the 2019 Prague Quadrennial. Other lighting design projects include Augmented Reality installation Islands/Soem (SIGGRAPH Asia, Japen), Natalia Lassalle-Morillo’s Antigone (Walt Disney Modular Theater), Jinglin Liao’s UNCAPTURABLE (Digital Arts Expo), Anthony Nikolchev’s Anatomy of Struggle (CalArts Ensemble Theatre). Pei-Yu assisted several international productions including Center for New Performance’s Fantômas: Revenge of the Image (Wuzhen Theatre Festival, China) and Witkacy/Two-Headed Calf (Divine Comedy Festival, Poland).

Pei-Yu received her M.F.A. in Lighting Design from California Institute of the Arts, and Bachelor’s Degree in Drama and Theatre and Bio-Industrial Development from National Taiwan University.
