Michael Cunningham

Michael Cunningham is a New York City based Lighting and Scenic Designer. Before moving back to New York City where he was born, he was the Assistant Technical Director at the Cleveland Play House and The Technical Director for the Cleveland Public Theatre.

Previous design credits include, for The Lyric Opera of Guatemala: L’elisir d’amore, La Boheme and La Traviata; For the Clarion Orchestra: The Magic Flute; For The Cleveland Public Theatre: A Recipe para la vida, Johanna: Facing Forward. Michael has worked in New York City for The Marymount School of Manhattan, Midtown International Theater Festival, NYU Experimental Theater, Playwrights Horizons Theater School, and Planet Connections Theater Festivity.

He is a resident designer for the NYU Tisch Dance Department where he has designed new works for Sonya Tayeh and Yin Yue Dance as well as numerous faculty and student pieces. Michael holds a BA from Oberlin College in Theater and a minor in Computer Science. He will graduate from NYU Tisch School of the Arts with an MFA in Design for Stage and Film in May 2019.
